Today I finally got to see "High School Musical 3". Yes, I'm aware that this is something I probably shouldn't announce to the public, or at the very least, something I should feel sheepish about, but I can't. I love a frothy musical. I had a rather flamboyant high school English teacher who fantasized about my high school (Hickman High School home of the Kewpies) breaking into musical dance numbers. He would draw out these scenarios where the football team would break into a dance while he strutted up the bleachers and the entire student body would belt out a song spontaneously. I'm sure that most of my class laughed at this idea, but secretly I thought it would be pretty cool if the world could be a musical some days. Anyway, "High School Musical 3" is about my speed for movies. The problem is, that unless you have a daughter, which I don't, it's hard to find someone willing to go to this movie with you. My 13 year old son would probably die before he would be seen at this movie. Of course, he would watch it with me at home if I had it on DVD, but go out in public to a movie theater to see it? No way. My husband got out of going by using the excuse that he hadn't seen "High School Musical" one or two (very funny), so I was in a bit of a quandry. I have no problem going to movies alone, but I didn't think I could do this one by myself. Luckily, my friend let me tag along with her and her daughter. I joked to my husband that my friend's tweener daughter was my beard for this event. I thought that was hilariously funny, but since my husband didn't know what the phrase meant, he didn't get my humor. Ironically, this was the same day that I had to explain what a bitch slap is to my mother. My family is not up on their slang. While I was at the movie, waiting for all the singing and dancing to start, my friend, who is a prolific crocheter/knitter asked me if I actually wear all the lace shawls that I knit up. The answer is, not really. Mostly I knit them because I enjoy the process of knitting them. I like the lace challenge and the beautiful product that results. I'm definitely a process knitter. But, I really want to wear my lace pieces more often. I'm often stimied by the best way to wear them, especially the triangular pieces. In my mind, I want to look chic-ly Parisian, or at least artsy edgy, but I'm always afraid that I'm channeling Ma from Little House on the Prairie instead.
I think Zac is kind of hot.

Just tie those triangular shawls around your waist over leggings or a cute kicky skirt. Very Bohemian... or whatever... Wish I had the body to carry off that style... LOL

This whole post made me laugh! I love the idea of borrowing a kid as a beard for going to a musical (although I know people who have asked to borrow my kids to go to Disneyland someday for the same reason). I, too, have trouble with triangular shawls and what the mason-dixon ladies call Jemima Puddleduck syndrome. But I wear them whenever I can anyway :)
