Last night was my turn to host our knitting group at my house, so I did my usual cleaning preparations. This includes running a vacuum over the cat hair and child-crumb surfaces, stashing the stack of magazines in the guest bedroom, and checking to see that there was toilet paper in the hall bathroom. The cat seems to be shedding in huge gray clumps of fur everywhere. You would think that she would have great bald spots on her body, but somehow she defies explanation and remains unchanged. Knitting group was great fun, as always. Soccer and baseball practice was canceled because of rain, so the male members of the house hung around the periphery of the knitters, although they were mainly circling the food.
Here's an alarmingly unattractive photo of my foot wearing one of the completed current socks I'm knitting. I'm hoping that it's the angle of the photo that makes my leg look like that. And could my toes be any pointier? Anyway, I've turned the heel on the second sock and I'm a couple of inches down the foot. I'm surprised by how much I like this colorway. I wouldn't have normally gravitated toward the bright green and purple together, but it looks good, especially out in the sunshine. (We don't have any sunshine today, hence the scary couch photo.) This is one of those unusual skeins of Lorna's Laces that I actually like better knit up than twisted up in the hank. Sometimes I love how the yarn looks in the skein on these handpainted variegated yarns, but then when it's all knit up, I'm less wild about it. I'm using a stretchy 3X3 rib all the way down the leg of the sock, which really makes for a skinny, sort of deformed looking sock when you look at it laying flat. That's why I thought it would less weird with an actual foot in the sock for the photo, but I'm rethinking it right now.
the socks i got from my sockpal2za pal were purple & green as well. i love em (now i gotta find the other one! they went awol (eyes the boys suspiciously))
